How to Clean Your Face Naturally… With Oil?

I know what you’re thinking.  Oil?  As a face cleaner?  Seriously?  What?

Yes!  Oil as a face cleaner!  I was a bit (ok, a lot!) skeptical at first.  It went against everything I had been taught about washing my face.  Facial cleansers are supposed to be oil free.  Right?  Well, maybe not.

I stumbled upon the Oil Cleansing Method on Pinterest.  As I read the article, the nerdy part of my brain woke up, and things began to click into place for me.  It was based on basic chemistry principles I had learned and used  in high school.  “Like dissolves like,” and “oil and water don’t mix.”  I had a “duh” moment.  How could water based face washes be getting rid of the oil on my face?  Odd as it sounds, wouldn’t oil do a better job?  I decided to give it a try.

Two Fridays ago, I mixed up a small amount of extra virgin olive oil and castor oil and smeared it on my face.  (I used the 3:1 castor oil:olive oil ratio.)  Everything in me was screaming “Stop!  Stop!  Don’t do it!”  It just felt SO WRONG to be putting pure, undiluted oil on my already oily skin.  But, I kept going, and I’m so glad I did!  So far, I’ve only made two small batches that add up to about three teaspoons, and I just finished the second one this morning.  Seriously!  That’s all I’ve used!  This method is SO much cheaper than regular face wash, and it’s been days since I’ve needed to use moisturizer on my face.  Yay for more savings!

Frugality factor aside, I love this cleansing method!  Yesterday, my awesome friend, Katie, actually commented on how great my skin was looking and asked me what I was doing differently!  Those of you that have known me for awhile know what my face used to look like.  That compliment was a big deal for me! I don’t remember anyone ever telling me I have great looking skin! =)  Anyway, she wants to give it a try now too!

This stuff works against hormonal breakouts too.  (Ladies, you know what I’m talking about.)  It got to be “that time,” and my face barely broke out!  The one breakout I did get cleared up and healed within a day or two.  Usually, it takes at least a week!

If you struggle with your skin, I would seriously recommend reading the article and giving it a try.  The mini facial you get while cleaning your face is GREAT, I’m saving a whole bunch of money, and my skin is in the best shape it’s been in a very long time!  As soon as I find my memory card reader, or even the correct USB cord, I’ll upload some before and after photos.

Seriously.  Check it out: The Oil Cleansing Method
